Content & Safety Policy
Effective Date: March 4, 2026
Last Updated: August 6, 2026
1. Our Commitment to Safety
Safety is foundational to Court of Ophelia, not an afterthought. We are committed to providing a creative, immersive, and secure environment for adult players to explore AI-driven fantasy storytelling.
Court of Ophelia is an adults-only (18+) platform. We employ multi-layered automated and human content moderation systems to enforce the standards described in this policy. This Content & Safety Policy applies to all user-generated content, including all text inputs, voice inputs, image inputs, and AI-generated outputs produced through our Service.
This policy supplements our Terms of Service. In the event of a conflict between this policy and the Terms of Service regarding content moderation and safety matters, this policy governs.
2. Age Requirement
Court of Ophelia is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. By using the Service, you confirm that you are at least 18 years of age.
- Users must not misrepresent their age to access the Service
- We require you to verify your date of birth before accessing sexual content. Until you do, your account is limited to non-sexual content: AI-generated content excludes sexual content of any kind, and sexual input is declined. Other mature themes, including violence and strong language, are not restricted by this limit
- Accounts determined to belong to individuals under 18 are immediately suspended. Accounts of holders aged 13–17 unlock automatically on the holder’s 18th birthday; accounts of holders under 13 are permanently terminated (see our Privacy Policy, Children’s Privacy)
- No content involving minors in sexual or exploitative contexts will be tolerated under any circumstances
- Age verification status is shared across all services operated by Old Greg’s Tavern, LLC (Court of Ophelia and Spindle)
- Providing a false date of birth is a violation of this policy and our Terms of Service
Separately from age, the free demo experience is limited to non-sexual content for every user, verified or not: AI-generated demo content excludes sexual content of any kind, and sexual input in the demo is declined. Other mature themes, including violence and strong language, are not restricted by this limit. The sexual content described in Section 3 is available only in full campaigns.
3. Permitted Content
Court of Ophelia is an adult-oriented storytelling platform for mature fiction. The AI Game Master will engage with mature themes when initiated by adult players involving adult characters. The following types of content are permitted:
- Fantasy violence: Combat, battles, war, conflict, and other violence inherent to RPG gameplay
- Dark and mature themes: Death, betrayal, moral ambiguity, political intrigue, horror elements, and other mature narrative content
- Romance, intimacy, and sexual content between adult characters: Romantic and emotionally intense storylines, including physical affection and consensual sexual content, provided all depicted characters are adults. Every character who appears in sexual content is an adult; this is enforced automatically by the Service and cannot be overridden by user instruction, fictional framing, or “aging up” of characters who are minors in their source material
- Profanity and adult language
- Substance use in narrative context: Alcohol, drugs, and other substances as part of storytelling
Permitted content is subject to the absolute limits in Sections 4 and 5, which apply to all content on every tier regardless of age verification or membership. Where a request would cross those limits, it is not fulfilled: the narrative redirects within the story, and repeated attempts are subject to enforcement under Section 7. Within those limits, the Service does not commit to any particular level of narrative explicitness, which may vary by feature and change over time.
4. Prohibited Content
The following content is prohibited and will result in content removal and potential account action, up to and including permanent termination:
- Rape, incest, or any depiction of non-consensual sexual acts or sexual violence
- Content designed to harass, threaten, or dox real individuals
- Spam, scams, or commercial solicitation through gameplay
- Attempting to manipulate, circumvent, or “jailbreak” our AI content safety systems
- Content that glorifies, encourages, or provides instructions for self-harm or suicide
- Content that seeks to extract real-world instructions for creating weapons, explosives, drugs, or other dangerous materials under the guise of in-game activity
- Sharing personal information of real people without their consent
- Content that violates any applicable law
5. Zero-Tolerance Violations
The following categories result in immediate, permanent account termination with no possibility of appeal. All content is preserved as evidence. Where applicable, violations are reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and/or appropriate law enforcement authorities.
Immediate Permanent Ban, No Appeal
Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM)
Any depiction of minors in sexual situations, regardless of whether the characters are fictional, AI-generated, or described as “aged up.” This includes written descriptions, requested AI-generated imagery, and any attempt to circumvent age-based protections. There are no exceptions.
Bestiality
Any sexual content involving animals or animal-like creatures depicted as non-sentient.
Real-World Violence or Threats
Direct threats of harm against real people, organizations, or institutions. Instructions for carrying out real-world violence. Terrorism-related content.
Hate Speech Targeting Real-World Groups
Content promoting hatred, discrimination, or violence against individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, or disability.
5b. Self-Harm, Suicide, and Crisis Situations
Court of Ophelia is a fantasy roleplay game. It is not a mental-health service, and the AI Game Master is not a therapist, counselor, or crisis professional. We have implemented the following safety protocols to handle interactions that reference real-world self-harm or suicidal ideation:
- Two-tier detection on every user message. Every message you send to any AI surface (the campaign Game Master, individual character chats, the DM assistant, and character/world creation chats) passes through a two-tier classifier before reaching the story model. Tier 1 is a regex prefilter that catches unambiguous phrasings of suicidal ideation, self-harm, and crisis. Tier 2 is an AI classifier tuned to detect paraphrased and indirect expressions of real-world distress (for example, “I’m tired of being here” or farewell language). The classifier is intentionally biased toward over-detection: it would rather flag a non-crisis message than miss a real one.
- Interception and crisis-card surface. When the classifier flags a message, the story model is not called. Instead, the AI breaks character and surfaces a crisis resource card routed to the user’s region (such as 988 in the United States and Canada, Samaritans in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland, Lifeline in Australia, Lifeline Aotearoa in New Zealand, plus a global findahelpline.com link as a fallback for any other region).
- Privacy-protective logging. We log a SHA-256 hash of the flagged message (never the raw text), message length, surface, classifier tier, and country code, for the purpose of annual reporting under California SB 243 and continuous improvement of the classifier. We do not retain the verbatim text of flagged messages.
- Glorification prohibited. Content that glorifies, encourages, romanticizes, or provides instructions for self-harm or suicide is prohibited (see Section 4) and may result in account action.
- Limits. These systems are not infallible and operate on a best-effort basis. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please contact a qualified human professional or local emergency services. See our Safety Resources page for a list of crisis lines by region.
This Section is published in part to satisfy the safety-protocol publication requirements of applicable laws including the California Companion Chatbot Law (SB 243) and the New York AI Companion Models statute.
6. How We Detect Violations
We employ a multi-layered, real-time content moderation system built around industry-standard, purpose-built safety classifiers, with particular focus on the protection of minors:
- Every user message is screened before the AI responds. All text you submit to any AI surface (the campaign Game Master, individual character chats, the DM assistant, and character/world creation chats) is evaluated by automated safety classifiers before it reaches the story model. Messages assessed as violating this policy are blocked and never generate a response.
- AI-generated story and character content is also scanned. Moderation does not stop at your inputs: AI-generated narration and character responses are independently screened by the same classifier technology, with a dedicated detection layer for any sexual content involving minors. Content assessed as higher-risk may be held for automated review before it is displayed.
- Image safety. AI image generation is protected both before generation (prompt screening, with additional restrictions for any image involving a child character) and after generation (automated scanning of the produced image before it is stored or displayed).
- Layered redundancy. Classifier-based detection is backed by deterministic keyword and pattern filters that operate independently, so no single system failure disables moderation.
- Automatic enforcement for the most serious violations. Content indicating sexual interest in minors triggers immediate automated action, up to and including instant permanent account termination, whether it appears in what a user submits or in what a user attempts to make the AI generate.
- Human review. Flagged content is escalated to a dedicated review queue and examined by our Trust & Safety process, which can uphold, escalate (including reporting to authorities), or reverse automated decisions.
- Permanent violation logging. All detected violations are permanently recorded, including content, timestamps, and user identifiers, and material subject to legal reporting obligations is preserved as evidence.
These systems operate on every message, on every surface, for every user, regardless of subscription tier. No automated system is infallible, and we do not guarantee detection of every violation, but detection is continuously tuned, and the most serious categories are enforced with zero tolerance. If you encounter content you believe violates this policy, report it immediately (see Section 9).
7. Enforcement Actions
Depending on the nature and severity of the violation, we may take one or more of the following actions:
- Warning: For first-time minor policy violations, a warning may be issued
- Content removal: Violating content is blocked or removed immediately upon detection
- Temporary suspension: For repeated violations of non-zero-tolerance policies
- Permanent ban: For zero-tolerance violations (Section 5), repeated violations, or any violation of this Content & Safety Policy or our Terms of Service that we determine warrants permanent removal. Permanent bans are lifetime bans from all services operated by Old Greg’s Tavern, LLC. We reserve the right to permanently ban any user at our sole discretion.
- Law enforcement referral: For content involving CSAM, real-world threats, or other illegal activity
All enforcement decisions are logged permanently. Ban status is enforced across all services operated by Old Greg’s Tavern, LLC, including Court of Ophelia and Spindle.
No Refunds: Users who receive a permanent ban for violating this Content & Safety Policy or our Terms of Service are not entitled to any refund of subscription fees, in-app purchases, or any other payments made to Old Greg’s Tavern, LLC. All sales are final upon account termination for policy violations.
8. Appeals Process
Users who believe their account was actioned in error may submit an appeal:
- Email team@courtofophelia.com with the subject line “Content Policy Appeal”
- Include your account email address and a description of the situation
- Appeals are reviewed by a member of our Trust & Safety team within 5 business days
Important: Bans issued for zero-tolerance violations (Section 5) are not eligible for appeal. The Trust & Safety team's decision on all appeals is final.
9. Reporting Concerns
Intimate images shared without consent (including AI-generated depictions): use our dedicated removal process at Remove an Intimate Image of You. Qualifying content is removed within 48 hours of a valid request, in accordance with the federal TAKE IT DOWN Act.
For all other content you believe violates this policy, use the in-app Report button on the character, story, or world, or contact us:
- Email: team@courtofophelia.com
- Include as much detail as possible: account name, approximate time, and a description of the content
- All reports are reviewed confidentially
- We do not retaliate against users who report concerns in good faith
10. Policy Updates
This Content & Safety Policy may be updated periodically. Material changes will be communicated via email or in-app notification. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
